1/2 of You Won’t Read This

You probably don’t know this, but the system we use to send out these e-mails keeps track of how many are opened, lets us know when an account isn’t accepting e-mails, let’s you remove your name from the mailing list or update your information.
Because of this, I can see that we tend to hover around a 50% open rate. The funny thing is, every year this company recognizes us for outstanding numbers when it comes to opening these e-mails. Apparently, the national average is less than 30%. Congratulations!
You might not know something else, but I want to share it with you because it is the reason why neRID exists. In the last two months, neRID has been asked to send regular representation to three groups that shape and have a vested interest in our profession.
  • D/HH Stakeholder Meeting
  • ORTD: Open Round Table Discussion
  • QAST Task Force
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but to facilitate discussion, some meetings ask for a representative and are not open to everyone. As an elected position, the same as the rest of the board, we exist to represent you at these events.
So we need your help. We want to make sure that we aren’t representing OUR opinions at these meetings. We want to represent YOUR opinions, all 100% of them. So, in order to do that, we need to hear from you. We may even need to reach out to you and select you as a representative to these meetings. You may have to reach out to us and let us know you want to represent neRID at these meetings.
Eleanor Roosevelt said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” I think the future of the interpreting field belongs to those who participate in the groups and decisions that dictate what our field will become.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and involvement.

  1. Thomas and NeRID Board

I believe that NeRID needs to be present at the. NDE D/HH Stakeholder meetings (held twice a year usually in Milford). The Education interpreters who are members of NeRID would want their voices heard by a representative. Some of the issues that pop up include education interpreters such as the recent NeAD/NCDHH effort to raise the EIPA level from 3.5 to4.0.

The QAST Task Force would need NeRID there so please do consider this a priority too. We need to consider some possible rule changes; mostly internal changes rather than Rules and Regulations. But all of these are on the table and now is the time for NeRID to express their thoughts.

I would volunteer but I am already an NeAD representative at the D/HH Stakeholder meetings and on the Board of NCDHH which set up the QAST task force. ORTD is a special ad hoc committee for the NeAD.
