It is a year ending with an odd number, which means the following offices are up for election:
- Southeast Area Representative
- Central-Western Area Representative
The bylaws state that the president and secretary “must be dual members of neRID and RID in good standing for at least two (2) consecutive years immediately prior to service.”
In addition, we have the board vacancies of:
- Deaf Representative
- Student Representative
If you are interested in serving in one of these positions, please send me an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org
If you know of someone you would like to nominate, please ask them if they are interested and, if they are, please send an e-mail with that information to email@example.com
We will accept nominations until August 27. We will publicize who is running and open voting beginning September 1. Prior to August 27, we will need candidates’ bios, photos and qualifications so that we can share them with the voting membership. Voting will close September 21.
Currently, the primary purpose and duties while being a board member will be to help plan and implement our annual conference.
Other opportunities for involvement vary. Many depend on feedback we receive from the community. Last year, there were opportunities to participate in the Interpreter Review Board at the Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NCDHH), the Deaf/HH Stakeholders meeting, encouraging the preservation of a staff interpreter position at NCDHH development of the interpreter licensing, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Day at the Zoo, and the NeAD conference.
I have asked and have often heard the question, “What does neRID do for me?” Based on my experience so far, the answer to that question is:
- Provide an annual workshop
- Share information via the neRID website, neRID Facebook, neRID Twitter accounts and neRID e-mails.
- We respond, when made aware, to requests from the community with the resources that we have.
If you have any questions regarding your membership status, you can contact the membership chair at firstname.lastname@example.org
