“Found in Translation”:  How Language Shapes our Lives & Transforms the World

By: Nataly Kelly & Jost Zetzsche

Translation and Interpretations. It’s everywhere we look, but seldom put in the spotlight. Found in Translation reveals the surprising and complex ways that translation shapes the world, affects individuals, perceptions, outcomes, and society. Covering everything from holy books to hurricane warnings and poetry to peace treaties, the authors: Nataly Kelly and Jost Zetzsche (both interpreters) offer language lovers and pop culture fans alike an insider’s view of the ways in which translation spreads culture, fuels the global economy, prevents wars, and stops the outbreak of disease. This book examines spoken language interpreting and ASL experiences, and our book club will focus on the theory and practice of what we do every day in a weekly free-writing discussion forum that helps us unpack, debrief, and better understand the deep importance of what we do and how many people it affects.
